Can someone please write a Dummies book for…

04 February

I love a good Dummies book. Don’t you? Once reserved for actual dummies trying to figure out the computer mouse, these yellow and black manuals now cover everything from wine to real estate to programming languages.

But not everything has a Dummies book. Which is why I have taken to my blog to beseech the Dummies book publishers to expand the library just a little bit farther.

Dear Dummies Publisher,

Can you please find someone to write a Dummies book for…

Adobe Connect. The online meeting/webinar platform is feature-rich but there’s a major learning curve. The interface is text heavy and filled with tables and checkboxes. Navigating their help area is like finding your way through the jungle blindfolded. Help!

Sony Vegas. Sure, I can get screencast tutorials from elementary school kids off of YouTube, but some kind of written manual would be nice. Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro both have Dummies books. Why not Vegas?

Quora. To a beginner, this “next big thing” looks like a jumbley mess of questions and answers. Break it down for us dummies, won’t you?

What Dummies books are you waiting for?

Hi Cindy, I’m the marketing director for the Dummies technology titles. I’ll happily pass your requests on to our editorial team (interested in writing any of them, per chance?) We need to know that the prospective market for a book is there before we commit to publish, but I can see all of these being topics on Dummies.com. Thanks for your interest, and if you want to pass any more ideas along, feel free to contact me.

Hi Ellen! Thanks so much for reading my post and passing along my requests. With two young children and a full-time job I don’t have the time to write a Dummies book, but I’m flattered that you would ask. It’s always a pleasant surprise to get a direct response from a brand. I appreciate it!

I just saw the “Beekeeping” picture in there – LOL! Believe it or not, that’s a pretty good seller! I never would have backed that horse (insect?) but we did and it worked out for us quite nicely.

I tried to find the most off-beat title I could… when I found Beekeeping in Google Images I actually went over to Amazon to double check that the book was for real!

Since we were just chatting on twitter, I thought I’d stop by :)

Beekeeping, seriously? Hilarious! I’m not sure if there is a Mac for Dummies, but since I’ve owned one I’m finding new things everyday this past year. Sure they have the Mac team who will train you but with kids and all that’s not feasible to get in and get my Mac on. I guess blogs will have to do for me for now since it helped me find I had a DigitalColor Meter. Now I will always have the perfect colors that match 100% in picnik. Yeap, I’m geeked about it!

Given the niche I’m in (savings/deals), I’m really surprised there isn’t a Dummies book devoted to all of those tips. Wonder who I could contact about writing one for ‘em?!!

    Nice to “virtually” meet you!

Hi Andrea… I think Deals for Dummies sounds pretty cool! :)

      Hi Andrea,

I’m one of the marketing managers for Dummies Tech books, and I saw your note about Macs For Dummies…and yes, we do have a Macs For Dummies book. We actually just updated the book and will be releasing the 11th Edition in early March. If you’re interested in learning more about the book, its listed on our Web site at http://www.dummies.com/buy/9780470878682. Good luck learning more about your Mac!
